About

Located off the newly restored Bishop’s Courtyard on the grounds of Houston’s historic Christ Church Cathedral, The Cathedral Bookstore was founded in 1983 by dedicated volunteers with a passion for reading. Since then, the store has provided books of interest to church members, downtowners, and visitors, as well as a quiet haven for browsing and discussing beloved books.

Stop by on Sunday, during the week after a delicious Cajun lunch at Treebeards in the Cloister, or anytime you find yourself in downtown Houston with a need to read. Like John Ruskin, we believe that a book worth reading is worth buying, and we have a great selection of new and previously enjoyed titles to engage, entertain, and enlighten you.

Revenues from the bookstore support the Cathedral, so if you find your own library overflowing, we appreciate donations of gently used books. Used book donations are also shared with New Hope Housing and the Harris County Sheriff’s Re-Entry Program at the jail.
