The Cathedral Reads 2020 Children’s book, and the book that inspired the Choose Kind movement, Wonder tells the story of August “Auggie” Pullman, a boy with a cranio-facial deformity that makes him really scary to look at and has prevented him from attending regular school. When he enters school for the first time in 5^th grade, his classmates react to him in widely different ways. Told from multiple perspectives, the novel provides great insight on how people deal with differences as it describes the community’s struggle with empathy, compassion, and acceptance.  Despite his challenges, Auggie teaches his classmates what a strong weapon kindness is and shows them how to see who he really is.
